Dallas—The wonderful world of color–well colored gemstones this is—is celebrated every year by the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) in its competition to find the best examples of colored gemstone jewelry in the country.
This year marks the 29th anniversary of the AGTA Spectrum Awards with even more outstanding entries than ever.
The competition took place last weekend and the winners were announced this week. The Spectrum Awards will be presented during the 2013 AGTA GemFair in Tucson, Ariz., Feb. 5 to 10, 2013. Winning entries will be displayed during the show and the Spectrum Award winners will be honored during the AGTA Dinner Dance and Awards Gala on Feb. 9.
Judges for this year’s competition were Candace Edelman of Alex Sepkus, Jennifer Heebner of JCK Magazine, fine jewelry buyer Abby Huhtanen, fine jewelry buyer at Bergdorf Goodman, lapidarist Kiwon Jang, and designer Kimberly McDonald.
This year’s jewelry was judged on the basis of overall beauty and wearability, innovative design, effective use of materials, quality of gemstones, quality of workmanship, broad-base consumer appeal and potential to generate positive publicity for natural colored gemstones.
